The best and important character to study in response to temptation is Jesus Christ. He is our best example. The bible declares that he was tempted in all point, yet without sin. You might say is
because he was the son of God. No doubt about that; but was also a man subject to like passions as we are. In one point of his life, he become hungry, tasty, fell asleep, eat, prayed, grew,
tempted etc. this means he wasn’t a spirit living here on earth.
Reading from the book of Luke 4:4-13, we realise how Satan relentlessly tempted Jesus. Each temptation of Satan was battled out with the same response “It is written”. Jesus overcomes the temptation of Satan not because he was the son of God and was walking in supper natural powers, but because he knew what was written in God's word. He had studied the scriptures and was fully
acquainted with what the scripture says. If the son of God used the written word to effectively overcome the enemy when he came tempting him, you also need to use it to resist your own temptation. Taking a close look and diligent study about the gospel, it is expressly clear that the Lord Jesus did not sin. If Jesus knew no sin because he overcomes while in the body on earth, we can also overcome. Don’t say it’s impossible. The bible tells us Jesus is our example; He is the author and finisher of our faith. As Jesus is our perfect example in the matters of overcoming temptation, we need to have a rich store of the word, divine sperm of God in us. He overcomes with the word, and we can also overcome only with the word.
Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth. (2 Timothy 1:15)
The closer you get to the word, the further you run away from sin.
If you really don't want to be a victim of temptation, then you need to study the word of God to gain stamina against the enemy.
