Can a Christian drink alcohol?
Proverbs 20:1
"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."
"Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."
1 Corinthians 10:23-24
"All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth."
"All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. Let no man seek his own, but every man another's wealth."
There are many things that may be lawful but may not be necessarily advisable. Generally speaking drinking is not encouraged in the Bible. Here are some reasons.
1. Expediency
It's not expedient or profitable to drink wine. I am yet to meet anyone who has eventually benefitted from drinking. It's a “mocker” or a tease. In the final analysis It can tease you by creating medical problems and financial problems.
It also mocks because it's "raging". This means to speak in a loud voice. It can make you lose control of your tongue and make you say things you will regret later.
2. Edify
To edify in this context means to build up spiritually.
Wine is deceptive because it offers hidden dangers. Example; spiritually it can weaken your will and make you susceptible to demonic influence.
When a Christian drinks it can undermine his faith as well as other people. “Let no man seek his own,but every man another's wealth”
It's not advisable to drink.
